Continuation of Industry-Academia Linkages: Faculty and Students from Mechanical Engineering (New Campus KSK) Paid visit at Atlas Honda Manufacturing Unit

Faculty and students from the Mechanical Engineering department at the New Campus KSK recently embarked on a meaningful industrial visit to the Honda Atlas Manufacturing Unit, underscoring the ongoing industry-academia collaborations. Led by Dr. Muhammad Farooq and Dr. Faraz Fazal, the first-year BSc Mechanical Engineering class experienced an enlightening tour of Atlas Honda Limited on April 24th, 2024.

During this visit, students gained firsthand exposure to the inner workings of one of Pakistan’s prominent motorbike manufacturers. They explored various departments, including production, assembly, quality control, and research and development, witnessing how theoretical concepts translate into practical applications using cutting-edge technology and machinery. The engagement was warmly welcomed by the HR department at Atlas Honda Limited, reflecting the company’s commitment to nurturing partnerships with educational institutions. Technical department heads generously shared their expertise with the students, enriching their understanding of production and innovation processes.

Later in the visit, Dr. Farooq and Dr. Faraz held a closed-door discussion with AHL’s senior management. Both parties emphasized the importance of industry-academia collaborations in driving innovation and preparing students for the workforce. Prof. Dr. Fahad Noor, Chairman of the department appreciated the efforts of Prof. Dr. Zahid Anwar, Dr. Muhammad Farooq and Dr. Faraz Fazal for organizing the industrial tour. He also thanked the campus coordinator for the facilitation provided by the campus management. He added that ‘’by fostering partnerships with industry stakeholders, academic institutions gain access to cutting-edge technologies, industry expertise, and resources, while industry partners benefit from fresh perspectives, talent pipelines, and collaborative research opportunities. Ultimately, these synergistic relationships contribute to economic growth, societal development, and the advancement of knowledge across various sectors”.  Professor Dr. Shahid Imran, Campus Coordinator of New Campus KSK, commended the department’s initiative in organizing such educational tours. These tours not only provide students with invaluable practical exposure but also offer insights into the expectations and roles of engineers within the industry.”

Dr Muhammad Farooq and Dr. Muhammad Adeel Munir embarked a visit to Millat Tractors Limited earlier today with Final Year Mechanical Engineering Students. This visit provided students with a firsthand glimpse into the operations and processes of one of Pakistan’s leading manufacturers of agricultural machinery. Throughout the visit, students had the opportunity to explore various departments, gaining valuable insights into the production, assembly, quality control, and research and development processes. They were able to witness the practical application of theoretical concepts learned in the classroom, as they observed state-of-the-art machinery and technology in action. The industrial visit to Millat Tractors Limited (MTL) was warmly received by the HR department, demonstrating MTL’s commitment to fostering industry-academia collaborations. The visit was meticulously conducted by heads of various technical departments, who generously shared their expertise and insights with the visiting students. Throughout the tour, students were privileged to interact with professionals at the forefront of their respective fields, gaining valuable firsthand knowledge of the intricacies involved in the production and innovation processes at MTL.

RESILIENCE 3.0 2024

RESILIENCE was a special event organized by ASME KSK. It aimed to make people feel strong and happy, even when things are hard. The event had two main parts: Talks to inspire people and Comedy to make them laugh. During the talks, speakers shared stories and advice to help people stay strong and keep going, even when life gets tough. They talked about how they faced challenges and still succeeded. Their stories gave hope and courage to the audience. RESILIENCE wasn’t all serious. Comedians also performed funny jokes and stories. They made everyone laugh and forget their worries for a while. Their jokes added joy and fun to the event. RESILIENCE also showcased talented singers who uplifted spirits with their melodious voices. The event included a poster presentation where participants displayed their creative work related to their Projects. Students shared their thoughts and ideas. RESILIENCE was more than just an event; it was an experience that celebrated the human spirit and resilience. It reminded everyone that they have the strength to face challenges, the courage to keep going, and the ability to find happiness amidst adversity. The event also featured a competition for the Final Year Projects posters during which the faculty members of the Mechanical Engineering department evaluated the entries. At the conclusion of the competition, they also awarded monetary prizes and certificates to the students

Annual Sports Gala UET New Campus ’24

The recently concluded Sports Week at UET KSK was a vibrant celebration of athleticism and camaraderie, thanks to the diligent efforts of our Sports Head Dr.muhammad Mujtaba Abas and their team. From cricket and football to badminton and table tennis, students from various disciplines participated enthusiastically, fostering unity and healthy competition. This event not only showcased talent and teamwork but also highlighted the university’s commitment to holistic student development. ASME EFx 2024

The ASME EFx 2024, organized by the ASME UET Peshawar chapter in collaboration with Metrix Pakistan and supervised by Dr. M Alam Zaib Khan, Department of Mechanical Engineering, took place from February 24th to 25th, 2024. This grand event provided an extensive platform for students to exhibit their technical skills, innovative ideas, and entrepreneurial spirit by engaging in activities such as oral presentations, elevator pitches, business idea pitches, poster painting contests, and 3D modeling competitions. Moreover, the event featured insightful workshops and talks by industry experts, delving into cutting-edge advancements in engineering and illuminating pathways for aspiring engineers to navigate their career trajectories. These sessions not only provided invaluable knowledge but also inspired participants to explore new avenues in the field. Furthermore, attendees had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a themed dinner, enhancing the event’s ambiance and fostering a sense of community among participants. Additionally, EFx organized a culturally enriching Mushaira, showcasing poetry and literature, providing a platform for artistic expression and appreciation. At the end, winners received prizes, and everyone felt proud of their accomplishments.

TEDx Auto Show

The TEDx student society at UET New Campus (Kala Shah Kaku) hosted a TEDx Auto Show. The show featured more than 70 modified cars from different brands and models, showcasing their unique designs and performance. The show also included burnouts, engine revving, and drifting demonstrations by the car owners and enthusiasts. The chief guest of the show was Team Sultan, a prominent name in off-road racing in Pakistan, who shared their experience and tips with the audience.

Industrial Tour to Fatima Fertilizer

A group of university students recently embarked on an industrial tour to the Fatima Fertilizer Industry with the objective of gaining insight into the fertilizer manufacturing process and industry operations. Throughout the tour, students were given the opportunity to explore various sections of the factory dedicated to fertilizer production. They received comprehensive explanations about the machinery and equipment utilized in the manufacturing process, as well as insights into the transformation of raw materials into fertilizers through technological advancements. Moreover, emphasis was placed on the significance of safety protocols within the factory premises, along with the company’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of its employees. Furthermore, students were enlightened about the company’s initiatives towards environmental sustainability, incorporating eco-friendly practices. The industrial tour offered students a practical learning experience, fostering a deeper understanding of the intricacies involved in the fertilizer industry’s operations.

Start-Up Symposium 2023

The TEDx student society at UET New Campus (Kala Shah Kaku) held a Startup Symposium. The symposium was conducted by Dr. Shahid Imran and Dr. Mohsin Ali Kazmi, who are the Campus Coordinator and the Chairman of Chemical Engineering Department, respectively. Both of them are mentors in entrepreneurship and startups and have extensive experience and knowledge in this field. The symposium covered the basics of startup creation, such as how to identify and validate a problem, how to design and test a solution, how to pitch and fundraise, and how to scale and grow your venture.

IELTS Seminar

It seems there may be a misconception that ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) solely concentrates on engineering-related activities and initiatives. However, in addition to technical events, ASME KSK also intermittently hosts non-engineering seminars to ensure students receive a comprehensive educational experience. To this end, ASME KSK organized a seminar on IELTS (International English Language Testing System), a standardized test used to assess English language proficiency for non-native English students and professionals. On December 5th, 2022, ASME KSK invited an expert in this field to share experiences and tips for excelling in this test. Following the seminar, students were provided with an opportunity to assess their listening, reading, writing, and speaking abilities by undertaking a test similar to IELTS. Additionally, awards and certificates were awarded to the leading participants.

Smog Awareness Campaign

ASME KSK recently initiated a Smog Awareness Campaign to address the pressing issue of air pollution and raise awareness about its detrimental effects on public health and the environment. The campaign aimed to educate individuals about the causes and consequences of smog and encourage them to take proactive measures to mitigate its impact. Through various activities such as workshops, seminars, and community outreach programs, participants learned about the sources of smog, including vehicle emissions, industrial pollutants, and agricultural practices. Workshop on Computer Aid Design (CAD) & SolidWorks Seminar

ASME KSK recently hosted a workshop on Computer-Aided Design (CAD) along with a seminar on SolidWorks. The TEDx student society at UET New Campus (Kala Shah Kaku) organized a TED Talks event featuring six inspiring speakers from different fields and backgrounds. The speakers were Ayesha Jahanzaib, a popular anchor and host of Khabarnaak on Geo News; Adeel Chaudhary, a Pakistani-Canadian actor and singer who has worked in Hindi and Urdu films and television; Adeel Hashmi, a comedian, social worker, producer, filmmaker, and screenwriter who is the grandson of Faiz Ahmad Faiz; Muhammad Ali, a passionate teacher, trainer, educator, and motivational speaker who is associated with Youth Club; Menahil Sheikh, a journalist and digital creator who has worked with various media platforms; and Dr. Affan Ali Qaiser, a renowned gastroenterologist, transplant hepatologist, and medical journalist.

AUTOCAD Workshop

The AutoCAD workshop session 1, organized by ASHRAE UET Lahore New Campus in the Mechanical Department of UET Lahore New Campus on 9th February 2023 from 12:00 am to 1:30 pm, provided students with opportunities to use basic software in the mechanical field. The workshop offered a comprehensive learning experience, guiding participants from beginner to advanced levels in creating precise 2D and 3D designs for various projects. The seminar was conducted by Khurram Khalid, an Enablers ambassador and a successful Amazon seller who has worked with various brands and products. It covered the basics of E-Commerce, such as how to find and source products, how to create and optimize listings, how to manage inventory and orders, and how to scale and grow your business. The seminar was attended by more than 100 students who registered for the event through the society. Video Editing Seminar

The TEDx student society at UET New Campus (Kala Shah Kaku) organized a Video Editing seminar as part of its online learning initiative during the vacations. The seminar was conducted by Asadullah, a level-2 FIVERR freelancer and a video editor and graphic designer with 3+ years of field experience. It covered the basics of video editing, such as how to use different software, how to edit footage, how to add effects and transitions, and how to export and upload videos. The seminar was attended by more than 100 students who registered for the event through the society. It covered the basics of freelancing, such as how to find and manage projects, how to communicate with clients, how to set rates and deadlines, and how to deal with challenges and feedback. TECHNOS’22

ASHRAE conducted an event called TECHNOS’22, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of technical knowledge in professional life. In this event, ASHRAE invited esteemed guests such as Mr. Tahir Raza, director and CEO with expertise in HVACR and leadership training, Dr. Muhammad Farooq, an associate professor specializing in ESSR and postgraduate research, Mr. Ahmer Khan, CEO and career counselor, and Mr. Faheem Shahbaz, MVAC consultants from MFS Consulting Service, Lahore.

Olympiad 4.0

ASME KSK recently hosted an event titled “Olympiad 4.0.” This event was an exciting opportunity for students and enthusiasts to showcase their skills and knowledge in various engineering-related competitions and challenges. Participants engaged in activities such as robotics competitions, technical quizzes, and design challenges, providing them with a platform to demonstrate their creativity and problem-solving abilities. The event also featured workshops and guest lectures by industry experts, offering valuable insights and learning opportunities for attendees. Moreover, Olympiad 4.0 provided a space for networking and collaboration, allowing participants to connect with peers and professionals in the engineering field. Overall, the event was a vibrant celebration of engineering excellence and innovation, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and inspiring future generations of engineers.

Plantation drive

“The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit.” With this sentiment in mind, the ASHRAE society organized a tree plantation drive to address environmental challenges such as deforestation, soil erosion, desertification, and global warming. The initiative aimed to mitigate global warming, promote a pollution-free environment, and raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness in our surroundings. UMS, as the largest official media group of New Campus, played a crucial role in covering the event and encouraging student participation in tree planting activities.

TED TALK 2022

The TEDx student society at UET New Campus (Kala Shah Kaku) organized a TED Talks event featuring six inspiring speakers from various fields and backgrounds. The speakers were Ammar Ali Jan, a historian and activist who spoke about the role of youth in social change; Dr. Ali, a comedian and actor who shared his journey of pursuing his passion for humor; Irza Khan, a journalist and digital creator who discussed the challenges and opportunities of media in Pakistan; Raja Zia ul Haq, an Islamic motivational speaker and life coach who addressed the importance of spirituality and self-development; Iftikhar Ahmed, a poet and playwright who recited his poems and talked about the power of words; and Raja Zia ul Haq, an Islamic scholar and president of Youth Club who explained the relevance of Islamic values and teachings in the modern world. The event was attended by hundreds of students, faculty members, and guests who enjoyed the engaging and enlightening talks.

Resilience 2021

ASME KSK organized an event called “Resilience 2021” on December 23, 2021, at the UET KSK campus. This event focused on the theme of resilience, which means the ability to adapt and bounce back from challenges and setbacks. Attendees had the opportunity to explore various aspects of resilience, including its importance in engineering, personal development, and overcoming adversity. Through workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions, participants learned practical strategies and techniques for building resilience in both professional and personal life. Experts and speakers shared their insights and experiences, inspiring attendees to embrace resilience as a key skill for success. The event provided a platform for networking and collaboration, allowing participants to connect with peers and mentors who share similar interests and goals. Overall, Resilience 2021 was a valuable and empowering event that equipped attendees with the knowledge and tools to thrive in the face of adversity.

ICEWE 2021

The Mechanical, Mechatronics and Manufacturing department of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore New Campus virtually organized its first international conference of Energy Water and Environment (ICEWE 2021) on 31st March 2021 at UET Lahore. The purpose of this interdisciplinary international conference was to provide an opportunity of bringing scholars, researchers and students on a common platform to exchange their research work as well as discuss ways to eradicate the key issues relevant to the field of Energy, Water and Environment.

The opening ceremony of this event was started formally with a welcoming speech by Prof. Dr Shahid Imran, Chairman of Mechanical, Mechatronics and Manufacturing Department of UET Lahore New Campus / Convener of ICEWE 2021), followed by the opening reviews and remarks of honorable guests including Mr. Rao Khalid Ahmad Khan, CEO of FSK Pvt. Ltd., Prof. Dr. Waqar Mehmood, Director of Center of Energy Research and Development (CERAD)  / Director of Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS) UET Lahore, Prof. Dr. Nadeem Ahmad Mufti, Dean faculty of Mechanical Engineering UET Lahore, Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid, Chairman of Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) / Former Vice Chancellor of UET Lahore, Mr. Farooq Amjad Mir, Advocate of Supreme Court / Former State Minister of Law, and Mr. Hammad Azhar, Federal Minister of Finance. During their speeches, all of them appreciated the initiative taken by the organizing team and also raised their expectations for this conference to have an impact in the research of Energy, Water and Environment through the international academic as well as academia-industrial linkages

Under the umbrella of this one-day international conference, more than 150 scholars, researchers and students joined together in this virtual platform from different universities both from home and abroad which included Saint Louis University (USA), KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweeden), Yalova University (Turkey), University of Malaya (Malaysia), University of Novi Sad (Serbia), Northumbria University (UK), Polytechnic University of Catalonia / Barcelona Tech. (Spain), Nanjing University (China), University of East Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Corvinus University of Budapest (Hungary), Usmansu Danfodiyo University (Nigeria) and many others. The entire conference comprised of three separate technical sessions namely Energy, Water and Environment which were split into seven sessions running in parallel. Through these, over 120 technical oral and 50 technical poster presentations were presented by the researchers followed by a question and answers session, all of which were broadcasted live on the official website as well as YouTube channel of ICEWE 2021. In addition to the platform provided to the presenters to present their research work under this conference, the researchers were also given a 1CPD credit point certificate under the license of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) coupled with the provision of publishing their research in high impact international journals namely Energy and Environment SAGE Publisher (Q2) and Biofuel Research Journal (Q1).

In the concluding session, awards of best technical oral and best poster presentations were announced separately for the categories of Energy, Water and Environment. During the closing ceremony Prof. Dr. Shahid Imran and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran, Campus Coordinator of UET Lahore New Campus, both expressed their appreciation towards the organizing team as well as the honorable guests, invited speakers, participants and attendees for their contribution to the success of this international conference. ASME Industrial Automation Seminar 2021

ASME UET KSK conducted the trainee induction test of a renowned international company Electrical Engineering Solutions INT at UET Lahore New Campus, event was arranged by ASME UET KSK in association with EES international. A free seminar on industrial automation was also planned allowing students to learn different ideas and thoughts. Number of students went through induction test and had a transformative experience.

ASME ME, BME, CS Orientation 2021

ASME UET KSK conducted the departmental orientation of Mechanical, Computer Science and Biomedical 2020 session. Students were briefly explained about the engineering discipline, leadership, social skills and the attributes of successful engineers. All the students took an active part and learned a lot from these interactive sessions.

ASME UET KSK arranged a Campus tour for the Mechanical 19′ Session, to make them aware of the campus and its surroundings.

Water Rocket 2019

Water rocket is technical event organized by ASME UET KSK every year. In this event every participant is to make a rocket using a plastic bottle and some paper and at the end pressure of water is used to launch that rocket ru1d the rocket that is most aerodynamically efficient has the highest range. In this module the technical knowledge of aviation of the participants is tested.

 

Inauguration of Honest Shop

On February 25, 2021, the Campus Coordinator of New Campus, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran, officially launched the “Honest’s Shop” Project across all teaching departments at New Campus. The initiative, spearheaded by Dr. Sayyed Mohsin Ali Kazmi, the Focal Person of Quality Enhancement Cell at New Campus, was commended for its innovative approach to promoting ethical behavior among students in alignment with PEC’s Professional Learning Outcome 8 on Ethics. The shop exclusively stocks pens priced at Rs. 10 and operates on a self-service model, trusting students to honestly record their purchases and leave payment in a designated box. The inauguration ceremony drew participation from chairpersons, faculty members, a large number of students, and staff, marking a significant step towards fostering ethical practices within the campus community.

ASME Automation Seminar

ASME KSK recently organized an enlightening event called the “ASME Automation Seminar.” This seminar was tailored for individuals interested in learning about automation, which is all about using technology to control and operate machinery and processes automatically. During the seminar, participants had the opportunity to dive deep into various aspects of automation, including its applications in different industries such as manufacturing, transportation, and healthcare. Seminar on International Scholarships

A seminar on International Scholarship Opportunities in Higher Education was organized by student chapters of ASHRAE at UET Lahore New Campus, Kala Shah Kaku. Dr. Muhammad Farooq, Assistant Professor from the Mechanical Engineering Department at New Campus, served as the resource person, drawing from his extensive experience in teaching, training, and research across more than 20 countries, including the USA, China, Turkey, the Gulf region, the UK, and various European countries. Dr. Farooq provided valuable insights into fully funded scholarships and different opportunities available globally for Pakistani students, while also elucidating the significance of aspects such as the statement of purpose, letter of motivation, and CV in admission applications for funded opportunities. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran, Campus Coordinator of New Campus KSK, graced the event with his presence and shared invaluable wisdom with the audience, emphasizing the importance of such workshops in enhancing students’ knowledge. He commended Dr. Farooq’s dedicated services towards uplifting the standards of students with international exposure and expressed appreciation for the efforts of ASHRAE society volunteers in organizing the successful event.

The Director of the Student Affairs Office organized a seminar on higher education in Australia in collaboration with all societies of UET Lahore, New Campus. Mr. Stefan Hofmann, the International Regional Manager, was the chief guest. The career counseling seminar provided valuable guidance and insights to participants, assisting them in making informed decisions about their future paths.
