The Mechanical, Mechatronics and Manufacturing department of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore New Campus virtually organized its first international conference of Energy Water and Environment (ICEWE 2021) on 31st March 2021 at UET Lahore. The purpose of this interdisciplinary international conference was to provide an opportunity of bringing scholars, researchers and students on a common platform to exchange their research work as well as discuss ways to eradicate the key issues relevant to the field of Energy, Water and Environment.

The opening ceremony of this event was started formally with a welcoming speech by Prof. Dr Shahid Imran, Chairman of Mechanical, Mechatronics and Manufacturing Department of UET Lahore New Campus / Convener of ICEWE 2021), followed by the opening reviews and remarks of honorable guests including Mr. Rao Khalid Ahmad Khan, CEO of FSK Pvt. Ltd., Prof. Dr. Waqar Mehmood, Director of Center of Energy Research and Development (CERAD)  / Director of Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS) UET Lahore, Prof. Dr. Nadeem Ahmad Mufti, Dean faculty of Mechanical Engineering UET Lahore, Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid, Chairman of Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) / Former Vice Chancellor of UET Lahore, Mr. Farooq Amjad Mir, Advocate of Supreme Court / Former State Minister of Law, and Mr. Hammad Azhar, Federal Minister of Finance. During their speeches, all of them appreciated the initiative taken by the organizing team and also raised their expectations for this conference to have an impact in the research of Energy, Water and Environment through the international academic as well as academia-industrial linkages

Under the umbrella of this one-day international conference, more than 150 scholars, researchers and students joined together in this virtual platform from different universities both from home and abroad which included Saint Louis University (USA), KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweeden), Yalova University (Turkey), University of Malaya (Malaysia), University of Novi Sad (Serbia), Northumbria University (UK), Polytechnic University of Catalonia / Barcelona Tech. (Spain), Nanjing University (China), University of East Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Corvinus University of Budapest (Hungary), Usmansu Danfodiyo University (Nigeria) and many others. The entire conference comprised of three separate technical sessions namely Energy, Water and Environment which were split into seven sessions running in parallel. Through these, over 120 technical oral and 50 technical poster presentations were presented by the researchers followed by a question and answers session, all of which were broadcasted live on the official website as well as YouTube channel of ICEWE 2021. In addition to the platform provided to the presenters to present their research work under this conference, the researchers were also given a 1CPD credit point certificate under the license of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) coupled with the provision of publishing their research in high impact international journals namely Energy and Environment SAGE Publisher (Q2) and Biofuel Research Journal (Q1).

In the concluding session, awards of best technical oral and best poster presentations were announced separately for the categories of Energy, Water and Environment. During the closing ceremony Prof. Dr. Shahid Imran and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran, Campus Coordinator of UET Lahore New Campus, both expressed their appreciation towards the organizing team as well as the honorable guests, invited speakers, participants and attendees for their contribution to the success of this international conference. The gratitude was further extended to all the sponsoring agencies, namely World Wild Life Fund (WWF), PHEC, Asian Chemicals Pvt. Ltd., TSI Engineering Inc., Vinylobuilt and Millat Equipment Limited (MEL) for their financial and moral support.
