Industrial Liaison Office (ILO)

Industrial Liaison Office was established in the department to bridge the gap between industry and academia. The Industrial liaison officer contacts the consultants and industries to explore internships for Mechanical Engineering students and jobs after finishing the degree. For the session 2020, ILO has arranged internships for 100% students. Moreover, external linkages help in managing the scholarships for needy students. Every year, students are being sent for internships in various organizations and scholarships are being given to the needy students. Different workshops related to internships and jobs are also being conducted for the assistance of 3rd and final year students. This office also runs a group page named ‘Mechanical New Campus Students (Career Opportunities)’ formerly known as Mechanical New Campus Alumni at Facebook for providing updates regarding new opportunities not only about jobs and internships, but also about knowledgeable workshops. The link for the page is also given below.

The ILO has developed the WhatsApp group to accommodate and help the third- and fourth-year students to find and acquire internship and job opportunities conveniently.  Also, there is a major focus on industrial collaborations in final year design projects (FYDP). More than 30% of final year design projects are usually collaborated with the local industry.  A few of them are listed below.

Final year design project with Unilever Pakistan
  • To identify different components necessary and most economical and sustainable solution for electric trike
  • To design and simulate the chassis under various loading conditions.
  • To fabricate the chassis and assemble it with other components.
  • To conduct trial runs for the electric trike
Final year design project with Bilal Engineering Limited
  • To analyze the observed data and implement the SPC tools and technique.
  • To select the most optimum SPC tool for implementation in our manufacturing industry.
  • To analyze the assignable and random causes that results in process variation.
Final year design project with AFCO Steel
  • To develop current state map to identify value added and non-value-added activities for streamline production.
  • To develop of future state map to minimize the non-value-added process.
  • To suggest possible process improvement to increase productivity.
Final year design project with Lahore Waste and Management Company (LWMC)
  • In collaboration with Lahore Waste and Management Company (LWMC), we will visit industrial sites driven by domestic and commercial waste. Through this critical investigation and factual data, we will generate the feasibility report.
  • The report will contain data about segregation operation, characterization of domestic waste, potential waste resources that can be used as energy source (bio-fuels, green-fuel, combustible gases and solid residue).
  • The determination of the most feasible techniques and methodologies that will give high yield of organic and non-organic fuels, more specifically diesel with high quality and economic values.
  • The evaluation of techniques will result in high process yield, substantial calorific value and removal of hazardous substances.
Final year design project with Service Shoes Industry
  • Developing a practical roadmap for Implementing VSM
  • Drafting and designing an efficient production planning system
  • Eliminating time and breakdown maintenance wastes
  • Eradication of unnecessary overproduction
Linkages with alumni

Most of the graduates of this department hold key positions at various government and private organizations. The department has a great focus on its Alumni to create and maintain its linkages. Moreover, the Mechanical Engineering Department declares its special concern over delivering quality education as per requirements of industries. The department regularly invites technical personnel from well-known organizations to discuss industrial problems. Therefore, the department is trying hard to develop industrial linkages with different industries. Plant reliability solutions also conducted a workshop related to reliability centered maintenance and reliability and held an industrial induction drive at the department. Recently, the industrial liaison office visited Sialkot Chamber of Commerce officials to develop good linkages with the industry and to provide them quality engineering services at economical rates.

The department benefits from these external linkages in the following ways:

  • Training of students through internships
  • Job opportunities for the fresh graduates
  • Getting feedback on Outcomes of the Program
  • Providing help in the process of design and review of curriculum as per the needs of industry
